  3. Despite its tough texture, bamboo is NOT a tree, it’s a grass: the tallest member of the grass family. Some types of Bamboo grow up to 4 feet in a day.
  4. Moso bamboo, the variety used in our Natural Bamboo Collection, can grow over 90 feet in height—taller than 9 African elephants.
  5. Bamboo is remarkably renewable! When it’s harvested, the roots remain and will continue to grow new shoots.
  6. Bamboo prevents erosion: since the roots remain in place, bamboo fights erosion even after it has been harvested—unlike when hardwood forests are cleared.
  7. Bamboo is better for breathing: bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide and releases 35% more oxygen than a similar mass of trees.
  8. Bamboo grows where trees can’t! It thrives on steep slopes and even in problem soils.
  9. Hardwood trees can take 30 to 40 years to reach maturity; bamboo can be harvested as many as 14 times over that span!
  10. Moso bamboo is panda safe: it’s not a part of the habitat or diet of Giant Pandas.
  11. Steel has an incredible tensile strength of 24,000 psi… but bamboo is even stronger at 28,000 psi!
